Major Renato Tapia update after Celtic transfer links
Celtic have had some decent luck in recent years when it comes to signing veteran players as free agents. Joe Hart retired at the end of last season after winning seven trophies in three years at Parkhead. Before that, Aaron Mooy had done a decent job as well although he spent a solitary campaign in Glasgow before retiring. This summer, Kasper Schmeichel has been brought in and he looks like the real deal even at 37 years of age.
Another veteran Celtic have been linked with in recent days is Renato Tapia. The Peru international was available as a free agent after leaving Celta Vigo.
He is no longer available though, as he has found a new club and a move to Celtic is off the table. CD Leganes have announced the arrival of Tapia on Twitter.
Someone like Tapia could have been a solid addition for Celtic. He has experience of playing at the La Liga level and has made more than 80 appearances for Peru at the international level.

A move for Tapia might no longer be a possibility but it does look like Celtic are still trying to add another midfielder to their ranks. And Arne Engels of FC Augsburg has been suggested as their top target in this regard by a number of reliable outlets.
It would take a transfer fee in the region of £9 million to sign Engels. It does feel like if the Belgian midfielder were to arrive, it would be because Matt O'Riley was on his way out.
Let's see how things play out for Celtic in the last few weeks of the summer transfer window. Midfielders other than Engels are believed to be on the club's radar as well. This includes Wataru Endo of Liverpool and Tanner Tessmann of Venezia.
