One problem that Celtic have faced in recent years is their inability to promote the club's best academy prospects to the senior team. The last player to make that jump successfully and become a starter was Kieran Tierney. It is safe to say that it has been a while since then. And with every passing year, we see more youngsters depart in search of opportunities elsewhere.

One player who had seemed in a decent position to break that streak was Ben Doak. He was given a couple of chances early on and the club seemed eager for him to stay at Celtic Park. But he ended up leaving for Liverpool.

It is understandable why a move to Anfield might have appealed to the youngster and he has already appeared about 10 times for Liverpool. It is not easy to become a first-team regular for the Reds though, especially with the club in a transitional phase following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. As a result, a loan spell could serve Doak well.

Other English clubs are interested as expected but it looks like Celtic are in the mix as well. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst said on The Redmen TV podcast:

"Leicester and Southampton are two of the clubs interested [in Doak], potentially Celtic as well. As far as I’m aware, the plan was to sit down with his representatives after the tour to discuss what’s next and where would be the best fit for him."

Celtic could do with more options on the flanks. They have been linked with a few players in that area of the pitch but someone like Doak on loan could be a decent solution for the time being.

That being said, Nicolas Kuhn's improved performances have been cause for excitement. If he can continue performing like this, Celtic might not need another winger.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Doak. For the time being, Celtic's primary focus appears to be on bringing in a striker to compete with Kyogo.
