Kasper Schmeichel is a Celtic player. The deal is done, it is official, the announcement has been made. The Denmark international number one is set to replace Joe Hart as the Hoops' first-choice goalkeeper, following his retirement at the end of last season. Interestingly, the Leicester City icon is older than the Englishman and the two were teammates at Manchester City.

Even though Schmeichel is 37, he has remained a first-choice goalkeeper. Last season, he was a starter at Anderlecht in Belgium. Also, he is still the Denmark national team's number one.

So, Celtic are not bringing someone in who has been warming the bench in recent years. No, Schmeichel is still very capable of delivering the goods, even though he is past his prime.

He is also a high-profile signing and Celtic do not make many of those these days. Naturally, his arrival has gotten a ton of attention. Schmeichel's post on Instagram about his move to the club garnered more than 34,000 likes within just a couple of hours. Players like Nemanja Matic, Rasmus Hojlund and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also left comments on it.

Schmeichel posted the picture welcoming him to Celtic on Instagram and wrote:

"A dream come true to sign for a club with such a rich legacy as @celticfc. Excited to be part of this historic club and follow in the footsteps of giants. A new journey starts, can’t wait to get to work!"

Let's see how things go for Schmeichel at Celtic. Of course, there is always a certain amount of risk involved if you sign a 37-year-old goalkeeper to be the starter. But the Danish international does have a ton of experience and a proven record.

Considering how things went for Hart at Celtic, most fans seem open to the idea of having another veteran between the posts next season. At the same time, the club appear to have made a move for the future as well, signing Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa for a transfer fee believed to be around £1 million.
