Celtic have gone for a like-for-like replacement, bringing in Kasper Schmeichel to take Joe Hart's spot in the team, which the Englishman vacated by retiring at the end of last season. The Danish international number one brings both experience and leadership to the table. Hopefully, he goes on to have a successful time at Parkhead, just like his predecessor.

When Celtic had signed Hart in the summer of 2021, the move was heavily criticised. The English goalkeeper went on to win seven trophies in three years at Parkhead though.

Perhaps that is the reason why there has not been much negativity around Celtic's move for Schmeichel this summer even though he is older than Hart. That being said, the Danish international will have to prove himself. It is not easy to succeed as a starter at Parkhead at 37 years of age.

Schmeichel seems to be looking forward to the experience though and had nothing but good things to say about Celtic upon arrival. As reported by the club's official website, the goalkeeper said:

"I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic and can’t wait to get started.

“Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success. Celtic is what football is all about.

“I know Brendan very well, too. He is a top manager and someone I can’t wait to work with again.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting up with the boys in America and start our work and then, of course, meet our fans who bring so much to Celtic.

“I will be doing all I can to keep Celtic on top and bring these brilliant supporters more and more success."

Kasper Schmeichel makes fantastic claim after Celtic announcement

Schmeichel has had a fantastic career without doubt. He won both the Premier League and the FA Cup while at Leicester City.

Even though he is 37 years of age, he has continued to remain at regular starter in goal at both club and international level. Now, it remains to be seen how things turn out for him at Celtic.

Despite his successes elsewhere, one could argue that Schmeichel has never been in a team where the expectation was to win pretty much every game of football. That will be the case when he pulls on the Celtic jersey. Hopefully he thrives in that environment. It is also worth pointing out that he is not the only goalkeeper the Hoops have signed this summer. They have brought in Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa.
