With Matt O'Riley's future at the club in doubt, it should come as no surprise that Celtic have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks. They are rumoured to be in talks with Los Angeles FC for in-form Polish ace, Mateusz Bogusz. FC Augsburg's Arne Engels is believed to be one of the players on the Hoops' radar as well.

They are not the only midfielders Celtic have been linked with either. Hannibal Mejbri of Manchester United is another player whose name has done the rounds of the rumour mill lately.

Speculation suggests that Manchester United are open to parting ways with Mejbri and would look for a transfer fee in the region of £9 million. That would be a risky investment for a club like Celtic, considering his lack of success at the senior level so far.

Mejbri looks more likely to remain in England anyway, albeit at the Championship level. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Graeme Bailey said about the situation:

"Only heard interest – think a move to Championship is most likely from what I am told – Burnley favourites but Leeds in for him too."

It remains to be seen where Celtic's search for a midfielder takes them. But it does not seem like we will see Mejbri playing in the green-and-white this season.

That might be for the better. Mejbri was very highly-rated while coming through the ranks at Old Trafford but he has not done much at the senior level for Manchester United, a club with a pretty good record of handing chances to youngsters. The Tunisian international's loan spell at Sevilla did not work out either.

It is also worth pointing out that the entire situation depends on O'Riley's future. It feels likely that he will leave but he certainly is not pushing for an exit by any means, having started on a consistent basis this season so far.
