There are not even a couple of weeks left in the summer transfer window, time does fly, and Matt O'Riley's future remains up in the air. The Danish midfielder has been linked with a number of top European clubs in recent times and Celtic are believed to have received several offers as well. But so far, they have not accepted any of them.

For a long time, it looked like Atalanta were leading the race to sign O'Riley. They made multiple offers as well. But ultimately, none were accepted and it appears that they have now turned their sights elsewhere.

With Atalanta leaving the race, it looks like a new frontrunner has emerged. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Brighton & Hove Albion have emerged as favourites to sign O’Riley after opening talks with Celtic over a £25 million transfer deal.

On the other hand, as reported by Sky Sports, Brighton & Hove Albion have made a formal bid for O'Riley. Nothing has been agreed but the clubs are in talks. Chelsea and other clubs across Europe are also interested.

Most Celtic fans would want to see O'Riley stay at Parkhead. But at the same time, there is an understanding that there are some offers that the Hoops would not turn down.

The good news is that O'Riley does not seem to be pushing for an exit. He has proven himself to be a true professional, starting regularly and playing the full 90 minutes despite the constant speculation about his future.

Of course, there are quite a few things O'Riley has to consider. On one hand, staying would provide him with a great chance to improve even further under the management of Brendan Rodgers. But then, there is always the chance that he goes on to have an underwhelming season or an injury-filled one, and there would no longer be as much interest in his signature.
