Celtic told they must pay £6 million fee to sign defender
Another transfer window and once again, Celtic find themselves in a race against time to get things done. It looks like it is going to go down to the wire at Parkhead. Not only do Celtic need to sign a replacement for Matt O'Riley but they need to make additions in a few other positions as well. One of them is centre-back.
All summer, there has been talk of the club wanting to sign another central defender. Yet here we are, with a centre-back still to arrive.
At this point, Auston Trusty looks like the player Celtic are trying to sign before the transfer window slams shut. He currently plays for Sheffield United and is an American international as well. So, he should already know Cameron Carter-Vickers well.
Someone like Trusty has the potential to be a decent signing. Celtic are believed to have already had a £5 million transfer bid rejected. It looks like it will take a slightly higher to figure to sign the former Arsenal defender.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic improved their transfer offer to Sheffield United by £500,000 and it was also turned down. But talks are still ongoing and a deal close to the £6 million mark is likely to get an agreement.
Trusty was signed by Arsenal in 2022 but never made an appearance for the London club. He spent time out on loan at Birmingham City and was voted Player of the Season by their supporters. And last summer, he joined Sheffield United on a permanent basis.
The Blades currently find themselves in the Championship, having been relegated from the English top flight. Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are successful in getting a deal over the line for Trusty before the deadline.
