Although not officially announced yet, Kasper Schmeichel's move to Celtic seems like only a matter of time at this point. Of course, he would not have been the first choice to replace Joe Hart for many when the summer transfer window opened. But overall, the fans have seemed very open to the idea of the club signing the Denmark number one.
A lot of that is down to the fact that there were a lot of doubts around Hart when he arrived and the Englishman went on to win seven trophies in three seasons for Celtic. The hope is that Schmeichel enjoys similar success at the club.
Many fans would have been hoping for Celtic to bring in a long-term replacement for Hart though. It is hard to imagine that Schmeichel will remain between the posts for the club for more than a season or two.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are working on signing a second goalkeeper this summer. The club are in talks to sign a second goalkeeper which will add even more strength in depth.
Celtic in talks to sign second goalkeeper after Kasper Schmeichel
Schmeichel was a fantastic goalkeeper in his prime. But he is 37 years of age now. So, it might be a risk on the part of Celtic to sign just him this summer and hope that things will work out for him at Parkhead. What if it does not? The club need to have a backup option in place.
Also, one cannot overlook the speculation about Benjamin Siegrist's future. It is very likely that the Swiss goalkeeper will leave the club this summer.
It remains to be seen who the second goalkeeper Celtic are trying to sign turns out to be. They have been linked with a long list of goalkeepers in recent times.
