Celtic release statement after cancelling Rangers tickets plan
The absence of away fans in Glasgow derbies in recent years has been a topic of discussion in Scottish footballing circles for some time now. It had looked like the situation was about to change after the two clubs had reached an agreement to allocate 5% of the tickets to the opposition. But Celtic recently made the decision that that won't be the case in the upcoming contest between the two at Parkhead.
So, no Rangers fans will be present at Celtic Park, when the two Glasgow giants meet next. This decision has divided the opinions of many.
Now, Celtic have decided to publicly state why they have come to the decision. And it is clear to understand now.
It should clear a lot of misconceptions around the entire situation. In a statement released on the club's official website, Celtic made clear that without a guarantee that Hoops supporters could attend Ibrox in January, they were not in a position to allocate tickets to away supporters at Parkhead for the forthcoming match in September.

In the long run, it would benefit Scottish football as a whole if away fans were present at Glasgow derbies. It just adds to the spectacle of arguably the biggest game in all of football.
At the same time though, one cannot expect Celtic to allocate away tickets to the Rangers until and unless they are guaranteed that their own supporters will be in attendance at Ibrox. So, one has to consider this as an understandable decision on the part of the Hoops and one that should not be criticised considering the circumstances.
Of course, it will barely matter when the Glasgow Derby comes around. The result will be the sole focus. Celtic look the much better team right now but they cannot afford to get complacent.
