Celtic are looking to strengthen in a number of positions this summer. Bringing in a new number one goalkeeper was the top priority following the retirement of Joe Hart and they have done just that by signing Kasper Schmeichel as a free agent. Viljami Sinisalo has been brought as his cover option. On the other hand, there is a need to sign a striker or two as well, following the exits of Oh Hyeon-gyu and Rocco Vata, while Adam Idah's loan spell ended at the end of last season.

Another area where Celtic could do with reinforcements is left-back. They have recently been linked with a loan move for Wolverhampton Wanderers' Hugo Bueno.

That does not mean that they are overlooking the importance of Greg Taylor to this team though. On the contrary, they seem ready to hand him an extension, with his current deal running out next summer.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic will open new contract talks with Taylor in the coming weeks. They regard him as a key player and are working to extend his time at the club with a new and improved offer.

Taylor has been Celtic's undisputed starter at left-back for the previous three seasons now and has been at the club for five years. Time certainly does fly.

There is a need to bring in some competition in that area of the pitch though. Especially with Alexandro Bernabei leaving on loan and it is unlikely that the Argentine left-back has any future at Parkhead.

Despite Taylor's overall solid performances at left-back over the last few campaigns, there is always talk about that being a position where Celtic can improve. Admittedly, the Scottish international has his limitations and is certainly not a Kieran Tierney. But that being said, it does feel like he often does not get enough credit.
