Celtic have already seen a number of their players leave this summer. Sead Haksabanovic, Rocco Vata, Oh Hyeon-gyu and Benjamin Siegrist have left the club on a permanent basis, joining teams all around Europe. On the other hand, Marco Tilio has returned to Melbourne City FC but only a temporary basis.

Now, it looks like another one of Celtic's players is wanted on loan. And a Belgian club have already made their move for the 24-year-old.

As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, KV Mechelen have made a loan offer for Celtic's Stephen Welsh. A number of clubs in the English Championship are also interested in the centre-back.

Welsh signed a long-term contract extension with Celtic last summer. But since then, he has not featured much and it looks like there are major question marks over his future once again.

Welsh has been highly regarded at Celtic for a long time. But he has never really managed to establish himself as a regular starter for the club except for a spell in the 2020/21 season, a period of time most supporters would rather forget.

In the past, Welsh has been heavily linked with a move to Italy. But it never ended up materialising. It remains to be seen if a Parkhead exit transpires this time around.

He was expected to leave last summer but it looked like he was suddenly back in first-team plans following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as manager. So much so that Welsh even ended up signing a contract extension with the club.

He would soon suffer an injury though, which kept him out of action for months. By the time he was back, he had slipped down the pecking order once again.

Celtic are expected to sign another centre-back this summer. So, Welsh leaving might be best for all the parties involved.
