With EURO 2024 and Copa America going on, football fans have had no lack of entertainment in recent weeks. Amid all this, one cannot forget that the club season is getting closer as well. And Celtic have already gotten their first deal of the summer over the line, although it is an exit and not an arrival.
Celtic have been linked with plenty of players in recent weeks, especially goalkeepers. But their first move of the summer has proven to be parting ways with someone who clearly did not have much of a future at Parkhead.
As tweeted by Celtic, Sead Haksabanovic has left the club. He has joined Malmo on a permanent transfer.
We had reported about Haksabanovic's exit being close yesterday. And it has not taken long for the official announcement to be made. He had been signed by the club during the Ange Postecoglou era but did not feature a lot in his first season at Parkhead. The 25-year-old spent the previous campaign out on loan at Stoke City but that did not prove to be much of a success either. Hopefully, he ends up having a better time at Malmo.
Celtic make announcement as first summer deal complete
There is no question that Haksabanovic has potential as a player. He had impressed during his first few months at Celtic. But his form faded away as the season progressed.
The same thing happened at Stoke City as well. So, Haksabanovic needs to find a way to be more consistent.
As for Celtic, Haksabanovic's departure is not expected to be a major blow. He was out on loan last season and barely played when he was at the club. That being said, the Hoops could do with more options in that area of the pitch. Let's see if they make any additions in the summer.
