Celtic looking to sign Peru international for free
Celtic have mostly made project signings in recent years. But this summer, it looks like they have an eye on adding some experience to the squad as well. They brought in Kasper Schmeichel on a free transfer to replace Joe Hart, who retired at the end of last season. And the Danish international is already proving to be a fantastic addition to Brendan Rodgers' side.
Now, it looks like they have their eyes on a Peru international as well. He is also available as a free agent after leaving Celta Vigo.
We are talking about Renato Tapia. He has made more than 80 appearances for the Peru national team. He has also played for clubs like FC Twente and Feyenoord and had been playing La Liga football for the past three seasons at Celta Vigo.
There are other clubs in the race to sign him as well. As reported by Bola Vip, Tapia is currently a transfer target for clubs such as Union Berlin of the Bundesliga, Fluminense in Brazil and Celtic.

Tapia mostly plays as a defensive midfielder but he is capable of filling in at centre-back as well if the situation calls for it. Someone of his experience and versatility could be a valuable addition to this Celtic team.
Of course, defensive midfield has been a problem position for Celtic for many years. Even this summer, they have been linked with Tanner Tessmann of Venezia. But it is expected to take a significant transfer fee to sign the American international while Tapia is available as a free agent.
It remains to be seen whether Celtic end up making a push to sign Tapia ahead of other clubs who want the 29-year-old. Adding a high-level international in his prime on a free transfer would certainly represent a smart move.
