Celtic have been linked with several midfielders in recent days even though they have already added to their ranks in the middle of the park this summer by signing Paulo Bernardo on a permanent basis, after a solid loan spell from Benfica. Yet, with the constant speculation around the future of Matt O'Riley means that it is understandable why the Hoops might be keeping an eye out on potential replacements in case of an exit.
One of the players Celtic had been linked with is Bobby Clark. Initially, most had not thought much of the rumours.
But now, the youngster is actually on the verge of completing a Liverpool exit on a permanent basis. Something that many would not have seen coming. He is not headed to Celtic though.
As reported by The Sun, Clark has agreed personal terms with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg. Liverpool accepted a £10 million transfer bid for him last week. The Reds will have a 17.5% sell-on clause and a buy-back option.
Celtic-linked midfielder agrees £10m Liverpool exit
Someone like Bobby Clark would have been a solid addition for Celtic. But at the same time, it is hard to imagine that the Hoops would make that kind of an investment to sign a largely unproven talent.
At the same time, the Hoops are being linked with another highly-rated midfielder in the form of Arne Engels of FC Augsburg. There have been some suggestions that he is their number one transfer target in case O'Riley leaves. There has been some speculation around the future of Reo Hatate as well.
Of course, Celtic have been linked with some experienced midfielders as well. Wataru Endo of Liverpool and Tanner Tessmann of Venezia are both rumoured to be on the Hoops' radar. Thus, the rumours seem to be all over the place at this moment. Let's wait and see how the situation transpires.
