Celtic recently signed their top target of the summer transfer window, bringing in Adam Idah from Norwich City on a permanent basis after his exceptional half-season loan spell at Parkhead. The Irishman is expected to compete with Kyogo for the starting spot moving forward. On the other hand, the Hoops are expected to try to sign another striker as cover.
It looks like Celtic were ready to offer that role to Rocco Vata this season. But he ended up leaving for Watford. Oh Hyeon-gyu is another striker to have departed Parkhead this summer.
Now, it remains to be seen who they end up signing for the vacant role. Do not expect the club to splash out though, after bringing in Idah for a £9.5 million transfer package, a potential club record depending upon the add-ons.
As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic are keeping an eye on Aaron Connolly. The 24-year-old is available on a free transfer and is one they're monitoring.
Celtic looking to sign former Brighton & Hove Albion striker for free
Connolly came up through the ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion and looked like an elite goalscorer during his academy days. That has not translated to the senior game though.
Connolly made more than 50 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion before leaving last summer. He had several loan spells as well. And spent the previous campaign at Hull City. The Irishman was unable to establish himself as a consistent goalscorer at any of those clubs though.
It remains to be seen how things play out. Of course, there would be a risk involved in signing Connolly. But then, Idah was not a great goalscorer at Norwich City either. So, it would be wrong to count anybody out. For the role of a third striker, the Irishman should be good enough.
