Centre-back is an area where Celtic are believed to be looking to strengthen this summer. Liam Scales was their most regular feature there last season, with Cameron Carter-Vickers struggling with fitness problems throughout the course of the campaign. Many fans believe that there should be someone to challenge the Irish international for the starting spot.

Celtic have been linked with a few centre-backs in recent times. One of them is Scott McKenna, who recently left Nottingham Forest.

McKenna has been linked with a move to Celtic since his days at Aberdeen. Rumours claimed that the Rangers were interested in the Scottish international as well. But it looks like he will be joining neither Glasgow club, as Spain is his next destination.

As reported by La Provincia (via The Scottish Sun), McKenna has agreed a deal with Las Palmas. He is expected to be confirmed as the Gran Canaria side's new signing.

Any possibility of a move to Celtic seems to be completely off the table now. As reported by MARCA, McKenna is already in Gran Canaria.

Someone like McKenna perhaps could have been a solid signing for Celtic. At 27 years of age, he is in his prime and proven at both the Premier League and international level. He is most definitely not the only centre-back that the Hoops have been linked with in recent times though.

The centre-back they have been most regularly linked with this summer is Dara O'Shea of Burnley. It remains to been if Celtic do end up making a move for him or not.

Considering the approach that Celtic take when it comes to transfers, it is more than likely that they have other targets as well. One can only hope that they sign a centre-back and getting their recruitment right, after how things turned out for the likes of Yuki Kobayashi, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki.
