Celtic have enjoyed a lot of success in recent years, except for the 2020/21 campaign, in which they finished trophyless. It had looked like they had fallen behind the Rangers and it would take the Hoops a season or two to get back to competing again. Fortunately, they did not, winning the league back the following year.
Neil Lennon is someone who has been a part of a lot of Celtic's successes over the years. At the same time, he was also the one in the managerial hot seat during the 2020/21 season.
Lennon's managerial career has been on a downward trajectory since then. After leaving Celtic, he joined Omonia Nicosia. He won silverware in Cypriot but was shown the exit soon afterwards, lasting in the job a little over seven months.
Lennon spent quite some time out of management after that before joining Rapid Bucharest this summer. But it looks like his time at the Romanian club might already be over.
Celtic hero reportedly set to be sacked already
As reported by Digi Sport, Lennon will be sacked from Rapid. The decision to replace him as manager was made on Monday evening, and the announcement is to be made soon.
This comes after a disappointing start to the season from Rapid. They have not won any of their six games so far this season. The club have lost one and drawn five. It goes without saying that that has left them in a tough spot.
Of course, one could argue that it is way too early to make a managerial change. But a lot of clubs choose to make rapid decisions these days.
If Lennon does indeed end up getting sacked by Rapid, it would be interesting to see what the future would hold for him. It is hard to imagine that he would get another top-level job anytime soon after his struggles.
