With merely hours left in the summer transfer window, Celtic have to move rapidly if they are to get deals done. They have just announced the signing of Auston Trusty from Sheffield United. That will strengthen the defence. It is also believed to be a matter of time before the arrival of Arne Engels is made official.

Engels is set to be the most expensive signing in Celtic history. But even after that, the Hoops are believed to be looking to add another option in the middle of the park.

A number of names have been doing the rounds of the rumour mill. Alvyn Sanches, Mateusz Bogusz, Luke McCowan and several more have been linked with the Hoops in recent times. Now, it looks like the club have an eye on a West Ham United midfielder as well but a move would be difficult to pull off.

As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are also exploring a loan deal for West Ham United midfielder Andy Irving. However, the Hammers are not keen to part ways with him.

Having come up through the youth ranks of and played for Hearts, Irving is no stranger to Scottish football. He is currently at West Ham United but is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Hammers, having spent the previous season out on loan.

At the moment, it looks like West Ham United are not keen on parting ways with the midfielder at the very end of the transfer window. Let's see if the situation changes over the next few hours.

To be honest, if Celtic do end up signing another midfielder before the summer transfer window slams shut, it is most likely to be McCowan of Dundee FC. He has only a year left on his contract and the fee is not going to be particularly high either.
