Celtic close to signing Kasper Schmeichel this summer
Celtic needed to find a new number one goalkeeper this summer following the retirement of Joe Hart at the end of last season. Most fans would have been hoping that the club would bring in someone who would be a long-term solution for them between the posts. But it looks like the Hoops are set to sign a goalkeeper even older than the recently-retired Englishman.
Of course, we are talking about Kasper Schmeichel. The former Premier League winner is without a club have at the moment and it looks like he will be heading to Glasgow soon.
As tweeted by Fabrizio Romano, Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Schmeichel as their new goalkeeper. The final details are being sorted.
The news comes somewhat out of the blue. While Schmeichel has been linked with a move to recent times, other goalkeepers had seemed higher on their summer transfer wish list. But now, it looks like the Danish legend is set to take up the first-team gloves at Parkhead.

Of course, Brendan Rodgers will know exactly what to expect from Schmeichel. The two worked together for several years at Leicester City.
By signing someone like Schmeichel, Celtic are probably trying to replace the experience and leadership of Hart in the squad, not just his qualities as a goalkeeper. And the Danish international has plenty of both.
If there is one thing we have learned from Hart's time at Celtic, it is never to count an experienced goalkeeper out. Hopefully, we get to see Schmeichel at Parkhead soon.
At the same time, one also has to wonder whether Celtic will try to sign another goalkeeper this summer once the deal for Schmeichel is over the line. There has been a lot of talk about Benjamin Siegrist's future at Parkhead as well.
