Brendan Rodgers has certainly gotten a tune out of this Celtic side at the start of the 24/25 season. At this time last year, the Hoops were looking very shaky. Now, they looked like a well-oiled engine, having already played for a while in the Northern Irishman's system. After four league games, they have 12 points and are yet to concede a goal. Also, very importantly, they have opened up a five-point gap over the Rangers this early.

It looks like Celtic are working behind the scenes as well. There have been rumours that they are ready to hand a contract extension to Alistair Johnston, who has been superb at the start of this season.

That speculation has led to many fans calling for Greg Taylor to be handed an extension as well. That just shows the journey that the Scottish international has been on over his time at Celtic Park.

There was a time when most Celtic fans would be open to the idea of Taylor leaving the club. Today, that should not even be a consideration. He is a vital part of Rodgers' plans and the manager has made that pretty clear with his recent comments.

As reported by BBC, Rodgers said about the importance of Taylor:

"He’s a fantastic player for us.

"How he makes that position work, how we want it to look, he's first class.

"He knows we really want him to stay and hopefully between his representatives and the club we can organise that because he is a player that I really rate.

"I really like everything about Greg. I love his personality, I love his spirit, I love how he plays the game of course."

Rodgers went on to add more about Taylor, as he said:

"He plays the game like a midfield player coming from that outside position in, so he really makes it difficult for the opposition.

"Technically strong. For what you'd say small in stature he competes in his duels, he wins headers.

"I really hope that we can tie him down. In this period now he would be a real priority for us to try and get something sorted."

One would imagine that if Celtic did make a real push for it, they should not have a tough time agreeing a contract extension for Taylor. He has been good for the Hoops without a shadow of a doubt. But at the same time, one would not expect top clubs to line up if the Scot did end up departing Parkhead in the near future, even as a free agent.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Taylor. The best-case scenario for Celtic would be him staying.
