New broke out recently that Celtic were trying to agree a contract extension with Alistair Johnston. They are rumoured to be ready to offer him a deal that would bring him in line with the club's highest-paid players. In our view, that would be the right decision. The Canadian international has been regular starter for the Hoops since joining in early 2023.

He had a tough task on his hands, replacing Josip Juranovic, but managed to do it seamlessly. After a shaky first season under the management of Brendan Rodgers, Johnston now looks back to his best and has made a tremendous start to the 24/25 campaign.

While Johnston has earned an extension, he is not the only one to do so. Greg Taylor has been a steady performer for Celtic for several seasons as well.

There were fears that he would lose his place in the team after the managerial change last summer. But Taylor has remained a starter in Rodgers' side as well and done pretty well in the role.

Taylor often does not get the credit he deserves for his role at Celtic. Perhaps because he was not a high-profile signing from another league or it did not take a major fee to bring him in.

Taylor's current deal with Celtic runs out next summer though. So, they need to find an agreement with him over an extension as soon as possible.

Firstly, because of his importance to this team. Secondly, because they do not seem to have an alternative, in case Taylor did end up leaving in the future. Alex Valle has been brought in, but only on loan from FC Barcelona for this season. And we are yet to see what the youngster can do on the pitch.
