There has recently been plenty of debate over away fans for games against Celtic at Parkhead. The Hoops though seem ready to make a significant gesture in an important ticket decision for an upcoming Scottish Cup match. There are suggestions that an exceptional ticketing request to the club is about to be met.

Buckie Thistle are due to travel to Glasgow on January 21 for a fourth-round Scottish Cup game against Celtic. The Highland League side will be keen to make the most of the tie. As will their fans, with plenty of them surely keen to be there in the crowd.

Buckie Thistle are believed to have requested 5,000 tickets for the match. That number is made up of 3,000 adult tickets, 1,000 for kids and another 1,000 concession tickets. That’s quite a sizeable number given their home town has a population of just under 10,000 people.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic have granted Buckie Thistle’s request for 5,000 tickets. Daniel Farquhar said:

"Celtic have been tremendous to deal with and we appreciate very much their willingness to give us 5,000 tickets.

“We’ll look to sell them all.

“So many people are looking to go to Glasgow for the match and we’re delighted to provide a good opportunity.

“Celtic told us that Feyenoord asked for the same amount of tickets for their recent Champions League match.

“That’s a remarkable comparison.

“But it underlines the enthusiasm everyone with Buckie Thistle at heart is showing for the cup tie.

“It really is a once-in-a-lifetime match for us.

“Excitement has been growing ever since the draw.

“It would be fantastic to have 5,000 fans backing the team at Parkhead.

“By the amount of tickets they’re giving us Celtic have recognised how big a day it’s going to be for Buckie Thistle — and we are grateful."

Celtic fans will also be keen to see their side return to action after the winter break. Some players are likely to be missing with several away with their national teams at the AFC Asian Cup. But there could be a debut or two if the Hoops do end up signing any new players in the January transfer window ahead of the tie.

As Celtic look to take a step towards another Scottish Cup win, they will be keen to get past Buckie Thistle without too many problems. Cup games though can be tricky, and are often a leveller between teams from different leagues.

Let’s hope for a good Celtic win with a great cup atmosphere for all the fans. It will be interesting to see what Buckie Thistle bring to the table as well in what will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of those players as well.
