While plenty of players have left Celtic this summer and more seem to be on their way out, the club have not been very active when it comes to incomings. At least that is what it looks like from the outside. The Hoops are yet to make their first signing of the window although a move for Kasper Schmeichel is believed to be on the verge of completion. After that, they will need to turn their attention elsewhere.

Another position where one would expect Celtic to strengthen this summer is midfield. Especially considering the constant speculation around the future of Matt O'Riley.

O'Riley has been linked with clubs like Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Atalanta and several others. It feels very likely that the Danish midfielder will depart this summer for what is expected to be a Scottish record transfer fee.

On the other hand, there has been speculation about Celtic trying to bring back Paulo Bernardo on a permanent basis after his solid loan spell at the club. And there seems to be an update regarding that situation.

Celtic will reportedly get £6 million transfer deal done

It looks like a deal to sign Bernardo is not far away. As reported by Football Insider, Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness said on their Insider Track podcast:

"It will get done.

“I spoke to someone in Portugal about this deal the other day and they said the deal will end up around £6million.

“The wages won’t be a problem."

There had been suggestions earlier in the summer that wages were proving to be an obstacle in signing Bernardo. But it looks like that is not the case.

Of course, Bernardo was not a regular starter for Celtic during his loan stint at Parkhead but he did show a ton of potential. There are a number of areas where he needs to improve further but if he can take that next step, then the Portuguese youth international will be a fantastic midfielder for years to come.
