All summer, it has been believed that Celtic want a Scottish record transfer fee in order to part ways with Matt O'Riley. Atalanta were rumoured to have submitted as many as five offers but the Hoops did not end up accepting any of them. Now though, Brighton & Hove Albion look like the favourites to sign the Danish international.

Brighton & Hove Albion have been heavily praised for their recruitment in recent years. They have managed to establish themselves as Premier League regulars thanks to their eye for talent. And it looks like O'Riley is in their sights now.

Of course, O'Riley does not seem to be pushing for a Celtic Park exit. He has started all three games so far this season and played the full 90 minutes.

O'Riley also has 3 years left on his contract at Celtic. So, the club are under no pressure when it comes to transferring and would only do it on their own terms. Interestingly, it looks like Brighton & Hove Albion are ready to break the Scottish transfer record to make the move happen.

As tweeted by Kheredine Idessane, Brighton & Hove Albion are offering a £26 million transfer fee for O'Riley. If the clubs come to an agreement, the deal could be done in the next 24-48 hours.

That would break the Scottish transfer record, which currently stands at £25 million. That is the figure that Celtic received when Kieran Tierney moved to Arsenal in 2019 and Jota made the move to Al-Ittihad last summer.

As for O'Riley, there have been suggestions that O'Riley would like to join Brighton & Hove Albion if the two clubs can find an agreement. It would be a return to England for him.
