Borussia Dortmund are expected to be Celtic's toughest test in the first phase of the Champions League. Not only will the Hoops be taking on last season's finalists but they will also be travelling away to Signal Iduna Park. That would be considered a difficult fixture for almost any team in European football.
The atmosphere at Signal Iduna Park on Champions League nights, just like Parkhead, is the stuff of legend. So, it will be interesting to see how Celtic deal with Borussia Dortmund and their Yellow Wall.
On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund have their fair share of worries going into the game against Celtic as well. Firstly, their form has been shaky at the start of the campaign. They lost 5-1 recently and this weekend, managed to register a comeback win after going a couple of goals down.
Borussia Dortmund have fitness issues as well. Jamie Gittens, who scored a brace against Club Brugge in their Champions League opener this season, had to be substituted off on Friday and hobbled out after receiving treatment on the pitch. On the other hand, Marcel Sabitzer has been dealing with injury problems as well and was not even in the squad in their most recent game.
Borussia Dortmund suffer double blow before facing Celtic
Of course, it is possible that both recover in time to feature against Celtic in midweek and Borussia Dortmund will be hoping for that. But the situation is not ideal for sure.
On the other hand, Celtic have their worries for the Borussia Dortmund match too. The biggest is without a doubt the situation of Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Carter-Vickers has been dealing with a toe injury and has missed games recently. He did not feature against St Johnstone this weekend and it is still unclear whether he will be able to play against Borussia Dortmund.
