Matt O'Riley's future at Celtic continues to be clouded in uncertainty despite the fact that he is starting regularly for the Hoops right now and playing entire games. His professionalism certainly deserves a lot of praise. At the same time, that does not mean that his leaving this summer is out of the question.

Celtic have received multiple transfer offers for the midfielder already. One club who are believed to have made a few are Atalanta.

So far, Celtic have not accepted any offers though. It looks like it will take a club-record fee to convince the Hoops to part ways with O'Riley this summer.

On the other hand, rumours doing the rounds online have linked Atalanta with another Celtic player, Cameron Carter-Vickers. It remains to be seen how accurate the speculation turns out to be.

Carter-Vickers arrived at Celtic in the summer of 2021, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. He went on to have a standout season for Ange Postecoglou's side and the club went on to sign him on a permanent basis the following summer.

Carter-Vickers has been one of Celtic's best players throughout his time at Parkhead. His only issue is his injury history. If the American defender is fit and available, he is inevitably one of the first names on the team sheet.

Celtic already are not the strongest when it comes to their centre-back options. The likes of Yuki Kobayashi, Maik Nawrocki, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Stephen Welsh, simply do not look like starters. There are question marks over Liam Scales as well.

So, in this situation, the club should not entertain the idea of Carter-Vickers leaving. Instead, the focus has to be on signing another centre-back, if possible, who can come in and compete with Scales for the starting spot.
