Celtic looked shaky in Brendan Rodgers' first season back at Parkhead. A lot of that might have been down to the fact that they were undergoing a change in system and a lot of the players had been signed during the Ange Postecoglou era, keeping the Australian's Angeball style of football in mind. Now, that some time has passed, the Hoops are absolutely flying once again, having won all nine games of the 24/25 campaign so far.

That includes a 3-0 win in the Glasgow Derby. One former Celtic player who did not have the same success against the Rangers is Sead Haksabanovic.

Haksabanovic left Celtic in the summer to join Malmo. His new club took on the Rangers in the Europa League recently. It ended in a 2-0 defeat for the Swedish club.

Haksabanovic's social media activity leading up to his loan move to Stoke City last summer had been heavily criticised. But the player does not seem to have any regrets. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:

"I wouldn't say that I regret it [the Instagram post]. It was nothing to the fans or anything like that. I don't want to go into details and stuff, it's between me and them, but I felt I was not treated as the others were and I need to look for myself and make sure that I'm good because I understand why the fans were mad at me.

"They always want the best for the club and as long as I was a Celtic player I did that as well. But I need to protect myself as well because of things that someone can do against me and if I don't like it, feel appreciated or respect it... it didn't need to go so far that I needed to post it, but it went so far so I had to do something for myself."

Haksabanovic certainly had an up-and-down time at Celtic. Early on, it had looked like the club had pulled off another masterstroke by signing him.

Haksabanovic even won the Premiership Player of the Month for November in 2022. But then the World Cup break came and that proved to be a piece of bad luck for the player.

By the time club football returned, he had lost his place in the Celtic starting XI. He made a few appearances in the second half of the season but was not really impressive. The break had certainly affected the form and momentum he had built up in late 2022.

It is what it is though. Haksabanovic is no longer a Celtic player but we can only wish him the best of luck at Malmo.
