Celtic will face arguably their toughest test of the season when they make the trip to Signal Iduna Park to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. The German side reached the final of the competition in the previous campaign, ultimately losing out to Real Madrid. It goes without saying that they will be the favourites in midweek.

Borussia Dortmund won their opening Champions League game of the season by a 3-0 scoreline against Club Brugge. But that does not mean that they have not faced some problems lately.

The 3-0 win was followed by a 5-1 defeat against VfB Stuttgart. Of course, when you concede five goals, it is almost always a bad defensive display. And Borussia Dortmund's defence let in two early goals against VfL Bochum before turning things around and winning 4-2.

So, all things considered, there seems to be some weaknesses at the back for Borussia Dortmund right now. If Celtic are to get a positive result away in Germany, they will need to make the most of those issues. And considering how freely they have been scoring this season, the Hoops should go into the match confident in their own ability.

An assessment of Nuri Sahin's team by a former Germany international should give Celtic some extra confidence before the two teams meet in midweek. As reported by The Herald, Dietmar Hamann said about Borussia Dortmund:

"Borussia Dortmund appear to be all over the place at the back at the moment.

"There was no organisation to their defending. No one seems in control.

"I got nervous just watching them trying to defend.

"BVB must improve significantly over the course of the season both in the league and in Europe.

"The Stuttgart debacle posed a lot of questions about them defensively. And to be honest, I don't think we will get many answers this season."

Hamann represented Germany on more than 50 occasions. He also played for clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool through the course of his career.

Of course, Celtic will now know what they need to do against Borussia Dortmund. Defence is a weakness for the home side. Whether they can get on the pitch and execute their plans remains to be seen.
