Ange Postecoglou enjoyed his fair share of comeback wins during his time as the manager of Celtic. But it was the Australian's turn to be on the other end of such a result at the weekend. Tottenham Hotspur were cruising against Brighton & Hove Albion and went into the break 2-0 up. But the Seagulls turned the game around in the second half, scoring thrice in a 3-2 win.
It is safe to say that Postecoglou would not have been happy. It had looked like Tottenham Hotspur had started to find their groove but this result will only raise inevitable questions about the Australian's tactics and whether they fit the Premier League.
Going into the international break, they find themselves sitting at 9th in the Premier League table. This is a complete contrast to how they had started the previous season and were looking like title contenders early on.
Amid all this, Postecoglou has been reminded of the difference between managing Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur. As reported by Glasgow World, Alan Pardew said on talkSPORT’s The Final Word:
"When you’re in a dominant side like he was at Celtic, let’s be honest, in a way you can have a bit more of a carefree attitude and get results.
“You can’t do that in the Premier League. The top teams can’t do that. Man City showed that yesterday because Fulham should have turned them over. They were a little bit lax and Fulham definitely should have done the job on them."
Ange Postecoglou bluntly told difference between Celtic and Tottenham
Of course, there is a difference between managing Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur. And it is not just to do with the gulf between the leagues that the two teams play in.
It is also very much about the atmosphere and culture of the two clubs. When was the last time Tottenham Hotspur won a trophy? We will answer that for you. The League Cup in 2008, their only one this century.
Celtic players are a lot more used to delivering under pressure when compared to Tottenham Hotspur. That is just the fact of the matter. The Hoops going a couple of goals up and not winning would be unacceptable. This is not the case at the London club.
