Brendan Rodgers was not a popular figure among Celtic fans when he left the club in the middle of the 18/19 season to join Leicester City. For the next several years, he received constant criticism for the move and that only faded away when he ended up making a return to Parkhead in the summer of 2023 for a second stint.
Rodgers' current contract runs until the summer of 2026. And most fans would want to see him sign an extension with the Hoops and remain in Glasgow beyond that.
Let's see if that ends up happening. There has been some speculation about a potential exit as well though. And that will only increase if the Hoops do not end up backing him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Celtic fans have been told that a club like Chelsea could end up tempting Rodgers to leave once again. As reported by GOAL, Andy Townsend told BoyleSports:
"Brendan Rodgers is more than capable of getting Premier League jobs given what he did at Liverpool and Leicester and then had even more success at Celtic.
"He might even fancy a stint abroad, but this time he won’t leave Celtic for a Leicester, I think he took it loud and clear when he first left the club and he got a lot of stick. I don't see him walking out of where he is. They did really well in the Champions League and I was really impressed with the way they went about it and the way they played.
"I think he would like to build on that naturally for next season. But say the Chelsea job becomes available, he’d be tempted and you understand."
One Premier League club would tempt Brendan Rodgers to leave Celtic
Many might not know it but Rodgers has a ton of history with Chelsea as well. He spent more than four years managing there, at the youth and reserve levels.
Of course, he has gone on to achieve a lot at the senior level since then. The Northern Irishman has managed top teams like Liverpool, Celtic, Leicester City and more, and won a lot of silverware as well.
Could a return to Chelsea be something on his bucket list? It is very possible. And considering the constant problems that the club have faced since their change in ownership, there is a decent chance that that managerial role could end up becoming available once again in the near future.
Enzo Maresca enjoyed a fantastic start with the Blues. But their form has faded away since then and they are struggling for any sort of rhythm right now and might not make the Champions League, again.
