Over the last few days, it has certainly felt like Celtic's search for their next manager is picking up a bit of pace. Brendan Rodgers resigned from his post a couple of weeks back after seeing his side fall eight points behind Hearts. The decision did come out of the blue as the Northern Irishman had always maintained that he wanted to at least see his contract out this time around, having left for Leicester City back in 2019.
Rodgers' exit might have come at the right time though. It was very clear that Celtic were headed nowhere under his management at that point. On the other hand, Martin O'Neill has come in as interim boss and gotten a few good performances out of them, including winning the Glasgow Derby to book their place in the Scottish League Cup final.
O'Neill is not the long-term solution though. There have been suggestions that he should be given the job until the end of the season. But on the other hand, there are also those who believe that the next manager needs to get the winter transfer window to rebuild the squad and it should not be pushed back much farther.
Over the last few days, there have been suggestions that Wilfried Nancy has emerged as the clear frontrunner and is closing in on the job. But Fabrizio Romano's update on the situation suggests that it is not as close as many might believe.
'Offered to Celtic' - Fabrizio Romano drops next manager news
As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Romano wrote on the Nancy to Celtic situation:
"He has been offered to Celtic as an option, but the internal discussions at the club are still ongoing."
Nancy has certainly divided the opinion of the Celtic support. There are those who believe that someone unproven in European football should not be given then job.
On the other hand, there are others who feel that Nancy has done a brilliant job in the MLS and should not be counted out just because he has not gotten a chance in Europe yet. We made the same mistake when it came to Ange Postecoglou and he proved the doubters wrong.
