It is very difficult to predict where this Celtic managerial search will end. Of course, Wilfried Nancy has been placed as the favourite to get the job. That being said, it is far from set in stone. At this point, it might be more media talk than anything else. Let's see how things play out from here. And as long as it is not done and dusted, the Hoops will continue to be linked with other managers as well.
Of course, Kjetil Knutsen of Bodo/Glimt and Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town are believed to be in the running for the job as well, although Nancy is being viewed as the frontrunner. On the other hand, do not be surprised if some new names crop up over the coming days, and potentially weeks, if this saga drags on for a while longer.
Amid all this, Alan Brazil has come up with a suggestion. And to be honest, it might be one worth giving some consideration to.
He has backed Celtic to let Martin O'Neill stay until the end of the season and then bring in Steve Clarke after next summer's World Cup. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Brazil said on talkSPORT:
"There’s one for you, Celtic. Let Martin keep it until the end of the season, then after the big tournament, Stevie Clarke, Celtic."
Celtic tipped to appoint international manager after World Cup
Clarke is the current manager of the Scotland national team. And while he has faced some criticism over the years, nobody can deny the fact they have enjoyed their biggest successes of the modern era under his management.
Of course, managing Celtic would be a different kettle of fish altogether. The expectation would be to win, not just make tournaments.
But then, he does have a ton of experience and never really had a team that was in with a chance of winning things. Could he do the job at Celtic?
