When Kyogo left Celtic near the end of January, it was a move that caught many off-guard. There had been whispers of an exit for a long time but even then, many thought that he would stay until the end of the season and take part in the UEFA Champions League knockout phase, since qualification had already been secured by then.
Unfortunately, that did not happen. Instead, Kyogo joined Rennes and it has proven to be a major mistake in hindsight. The Japanese forward has barely played for the Ligue 1 side since joining them and looks to be on the periphery of manager Habib Beye's plans.
Recently, reports came out suggesting that Kyogo was getting €115,000 per month. That is a significant figure for sure but many felt that it was on the lower end, considering it took Rennes a transfer fee in the region of €10 million to sign him from Celtic.
Also, that is not the kind of figure the Kyogo would not be able to get at Celtic. In the past, there have been suggestions that Callum McGregor makes around £1.65 million per year.
New report says Kyogo's salary much higher than Celtic fans thought
Now, a new report has come out. And if that is accurate then Kyogo is making significantly more than the number that had been previously suggested in the French media.
In fact, more than double. As reported by Jeunes Footeux, to convince the Japanese international striker, Stade Rennais didn't hesitate to offer him a salary of €250,000 per month excluding bonuses.
We are not sure which of those figures is accurate. But at the end of the day, whatever may be the case, it is a move that clearly has not worked out for Kyogo and it feels like it is time to change teams already.
