Celtic star Benjamin Nygren appears to have come through an injury scare ahead of the fast-approaching World Cup.

Nygren is one of a number of Bhoys to be heading to North America this summer, though there were fears that he might not make it.

Nygren's injury scare

Nygren was listed as part of a small group of Sweden players who had to train away from the main group in their pre-World Cup camp due to an injury issue.

The forward enjoyed a brilliant first season with the Hoops, scoring 16 times in 38 league appearances, and he is hoping to take that form into the World Cup with Sweden.

And the good news is that he should be fully available, with Sweden assistant coach Sebastien Larsson confirming that none of the injuries are of serious concern.

“There is nothing to worry about, absolutely not,” Larsson told Aftonbladet. That update included the condition of Nygren, as well as the other three players listed as training individually.

Sweden's World Cup hopes

Sweden are placed in an interesting World Cup group that could go a number of ways. Tunisia, Netherlands and Japan are their group stage opponents.

Sweden will be confident of at least going through as one of the eight-best third placed teams, and they will have their eye on second place, but Japan will offer serious competition, and the Netherlands are strong favourites to win the group.

Graham Potter's men will rely on talent like Viktor Gyokeres, Nygren, Alexander Isak Anthony Elanga and Lucas Bergvall, while they will be without one of their most dangerous attackers in Dejan Kulusevski through injury.

Nygren may be able to help fill that void, although he is unlikely to be a starter given the attacking talent Potter has at his disposal. With Gyokeres in the mix, he is likely to start up top with Isak in a wider role, and Elanga likely has first dibs on the other side.

But the in-form Celtic attacker should see plenty of football during the tournament in one form or another. Managers are going to have to be smart at this World Cup, too, and particularly when it comes to using the whole squad.

Typically, rotation hasn't been too important during the World Cup, but more teams means more games, and this World Cup is spead out across thee massive countries, meaning plenty of travel and time zone changes. Rotation will be vital.
