The winter transfer window is finally here. We have seen Celtic be linked with plenty of players leading up to it. Now, it remains to be seen how many of those rumours are true and which ones do not have much substance to them. Kieran Tierney is certainly one who seems to be on his way out of Arsenal with Parkhead believed to be his most likely destination if or when that happens.
It is believed that Arsenal have passed on the chance to extend his contract by another year. It is not hard to understand why that is the case considering the little football he has played lately and the constant injuries he has been dealing with for years now.
Interestingly though, Tierney found himself on the bench as Arsenal took on Brentford even though he remained an unused sub. That means that any hopes of the move being completed ahead of the Glasgow Derby are well and truly over.
Of course, Tierney being on the bench does not mean that he will definitely not be leaving Arsenal this month. But it does suggest that he is still a part of Arteta's plans, no matter how small.
Mikel Arteta decision hands transfer blow to Celtic
One can bank on Tierney leaving Arsenal. But it is more likely that it will happen in the summer and not this January.
Ultimately, there would be an element of risk involved in Celtic signing Tierney. His injury history cannot be ignored even though he is a quality player.
That being said, it would be a risk worth taking for the Hoops. A club hero would be returning and there is no doubt that quality-wise, he would be one of the best around. There is not much more you can ask for out of a free transfer.
