Other than the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen and the treble that is up for grabs, another talking point surrounding Celtic in recent weeks has been the contract situation of Greg Taylor. Earlier, there had been rumours that he had signed an extension but that speculation has been rubbished by Ange Postecoglou since then.
So, most fans have been viewing this upcoming Scottish Cup final as Taylor's last game in a Celtic shirt. If that turns out to be the case, he deserves a wonderful farewell.
But interestingly, it looks like the situation is still open and there is no guarantee that Taylor will leave Celtic this summer. That's what Brendan Rodgers has stated while talking ahead of the Scottish Cup final. In fact, the two still seem to be talking about the matter.
As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said regarding Taylor's situation:
"I had a long conversation with Greg yesterday. The door is not closed. He and I are just focusing on the performance level of the team and I think once the season is over on Saturday, then he'll have a lot more thinking time with more space to do that.
"I wouldn't shut the door totally on it. A number of weeks back, I gave my feeling on what may happen, just having experienced so many of these situations and what it can look like.
"I would definitely say it's not, 100 per cent, his last game. I put on record a number of times my keenness to keep him here, believing it can work with him and Kieran being here with the number of games that we have and the different types of games we need to play.
"And also because of Kieran and his situation coming back and especially in this early part of the season where there's a lot of games.
"So it can definitely work but there has to be an agreement between himself and his representatives and the club. If that's not reached, then he won't be here. He'll move on. But it's certainly not closed as of yet."
Massive twist in Greg Taylor's Celtic contract situation
That will certainly be music to the ears of Celtic supporters, most of whom had already given up on the idea of Taylor potentially staying on with the club. A lot have certainly warmed up to that prospect as the Scot has been delivering solid performances while Jeffrey Schlupp's form has faded away.
At the end of the day, nothing is for certain. This update does not mean that Taylor will definitely be staying at Celtic. On the contrary, it still feels a lot more likely that he will leave than stay. But at least, it looks like the Hoops still have a chance, and that is better than nothing.
It remains to be seen how the situation plays out. There might yet be another twist in this tale. But for now, the focus has to be on the task at hand, which is the upcoming Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen.
