Martin O'Neill has exceeded all expectations since taking interim charge of Celtic after Brendan Rodgers unexpectedly resigned last week. The 73-year-old had been out of management for six years and was pretty much considered retired, having made a move into punditry. Also, considering how bad the Hoops had looked this season, there was very little hope that he would be able to turn things around.

There were also some concerns about how his football would translate to modern-day Celtic. He is a club legend without doubt. But his success in Scotland came a couple of decades ago.

But O'Neill has shown that he remains a phenomenal manager to this day. He won 4-0 against Falkirk in his first game back and followed that up with a 3-1 win against the Rangers to guide Celtic into the Scottish League Cup final.

Unsurprisingly, there are already calls for him to be handed the job until the end of the season. There do not seem to be many outstanding candidates available right now and perhaps it would make sense for the Hoops to try their luck next summer instead, unless someone like Kjetil Knutsen ends up becoming available. What does O'Neill think about extending his stay though?

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, O’Neill would be willing to stay on as Celtic manager until the end of the season. His relationship with Dermot Desmond is believed to be a crucial part of this idea.

It is undeniable that we have seen a transformation in O'Neill over the past week. When he arrived, he did seem a bit nervous about the idea of manaing Celtic again, especially after staying out of management for a while.

Over the week, we have seen O'Neill's confidence grow though. And now, it looks like he is open to the idea of an extended stay at the club.
