Celtic are said to be eyeing a Scottish Premiership forward as they look to address their alarming striker situation this summer. The Bhoys have just one striker currently on their books after Kelechi Iheanacho's contract expired.

Daizen Maeda can fill in there, but all indications suggest the Japan international will be leaving this summer. Callum Osmand is the only striker on the books, though there are reports Qarabag's Camilo Duran is a serious target this summer.

But the striker recruitment cannot end there, with Celtic likely needing two or three striker signings overall this summer.

Celtic eye Premiership frontman

Celtic are being linked with a number of Motherwell stars this summer, and another has now been added to the list. Elijah Just and Elliot Watt have already been linked with Parkhead switches, and now Tawanda Maswanhise is reportedly being eyed by the Hoops.

According to Sky Sports, Martin O'Neill is personally keen on the 23-year-old striker, but there has been no formal approach yet, with Anderlecht also said to be interested.

Maswanhise initially joined Motherwell on a free transfer from Leicester City having come up short in breaking through in the East Midlands. Since then, he has scored 22 goals in 57 league appearances for Motherwell, and that includes the 17 goals he scored last season to become the league's top scorer.

Motherwell have made it clear they won't be selling any of their star men on the cheap this summer, so it's likely Maswanhise is no exception. They are also extremely unlikely to sell more than one of their players to Celtic, so the Hoops may have to pick which of the three linked players they would like to sign the most.

Maswanhise a 'constant threat'

Former Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou said of the striker last season: “There’s been a lot of debate and a lot of discussion, which is natural, about us needing a goalscorer.

“Throughout the season we have used him as a nine and you see he’s a constant threat in so many ways, not just running in behind but also 1v1 inside the box where he can find good positions – and today he got a beautiful goal.”

Celtic are desperate for strikers this summer, and signing at least one proven Premiership commodity would be a wise move to help the Hoops hit the ground running this summer. Most players signed from abroad require a settling-in period, and it's partly for that reason that O'Neill may well look to sign at least a couple of players with Premiership experience this summer.
