Celtic now want two more reunions after striking a new deal with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recently. The Bhoys extended the midfielder's stay in the form of a new deal, even though they had passed up the chance to extend the deal before June 30.
Nevertheless, the experienced midfielder will stick around for next season, and Martin O'Neill now says he wants to bring two more players back.
O'Neill wants Iheanacho and Saracchi back
Celtic boss O'Neill now says he wants to re-sign former striker Kelechi Iheanacho who, like Oxlade-Chamberlain, had a short-term deal that the Hoops had the chance to extend but didn't.
"I'd like to do something with him," O'Neill said. "If we can do something relatively quickly, at least he then gets started in pre-season, which is really important for him. It's something he didn't have last year.
"So that would be nice. I'm definitely pursuing that at this minute. He won't be in Portugal with us, but we are talking to his agent now at this moment. I would like to have him."
O'Neill also wants to re-sign left-back Marcelo Saracchi, who did well during a loan spell at the club last season. Boca Juniors are said to be willing to sell, and there is no doubt Saracchi would be a useful deputy for injury-prone Kieran Tierney.
"I'd like to take him back if it's at all possible," O'Neill added. "I jokingly said I would give him a 25-year contract for making the goal [on the final day of last season against Hearts to win Celtic the league].
We have had conversations with his agent at this minute, so we'll see where that goes."
Fresh Saracchi complication
Celtic's slow decision-making over Saracchi may have caused them a problem. According to ESPN, Estudiantes have enquired about the full-back and are interested in striking a deal this summer.
The Bhoys are said to have had a deal rejected earlier this summer, but they have been slow to follow up despite O'Neill seemingly wanting a deal to be done. There could now be competition, and from within Argentina, though keep in mind Saracchi is from Uruguay.
He may wish to stay in South America, that remains to be seen, but we do know that Saracchi enjoyed his time at Parkhead, and there have been reports aplenty claiming that he would be happy to return to the club on a full-time deal.
