Celtic are now just weeks away from the start of the new season, and we are yet to see a new signing. That will likely change in the next week or so, with Martin O'Neill and the club's recruitment staff now looking to push ahead with their summer business.
The Bhoys need a number of new recruits to be ready for the new season, and while we have been starved of new signings, there have been transfer links aplenty. Based on those links, we have taken a look at a possible Celtic starting XI for the new season.
GK - Dinko Horkas
Celtic need a new starting goalkeeper after losing Kasper Schmeichel to retirement. At this point, Las Palmas goalkeeper Dinko Horkas appears to be the most serious target, potentially costing around £6million.
LB - Kieran Tierney
Tierney returns from the World Cup still as Celtic's number one left-back. But he will need support, and Celtic need to add depth here.
CB - Liam Scales
Scales is a reliable option at centre-back, and his strong finish to last season could see him keep Cameron Carter-Vickers out of the team.
CB - Auston Trusty
A trusty option indeed, Trusty is still at the World Cup with USA, but he will likely remain a starter next season. Celtic are likely to sign another centre-back for further competition, though.
RB - Alistair Johnston
Alistair Johnston has had an excellent World Cup with Canada, and he has been linked with a Premier League switch, but given the other likely exits, the Bboys are likely to battle to keep hold of the defender.
CDM - Callum McGregor
McGregor will likely continue to take one of the holding spots, with O'Neill seeing him as a reliable option, and rightly so.
CDM - Gvidas Gineitis
Celtic are going to need to replace Arne Engels, and it may be the position they spend big on, given Engels will likely go for more than £20million. Torino's Gineitis is set to cost somewhere around £8million-£9million, but the Hoops might just make a statement in the midfield.
CAM - Benjamin Nygren
Nygren is being linked with an exit, but he may be forced to wait due to those who are ahead of him, and this lineup does assume Daizen Maeda, Engels and Reo Hatate get their moves this summer. Nygren didn't have a great World Cup, which didn't help his stock, and he might need another strong season before he can make a strong case to leave.
LW - Jota
Celtic need more production on the left, and Tounekti has not produced it. Jota is likely to come back in after an injury late last season, but the Hoops could add competition here.
RW - Elijah Just
Yang Hyun-jun finished the season on the right, but Celtic are likely to add fresh competition, and links with Motherwell World Cup star Just won't go away. The goal-scoring winger could well be an option this summer.
CF - Camilo Duran
Celtic need two or three striker signings this summer, and Qarabag's Camilo Duran looks as though he could be the first. The Bhoys were knocked back with their first offer, but they could well return with another, with Duran an affordable striker, especially after scoring five times in the Champions League last season.
