Celtic are allowing themselves to repeat the Kasper Schmeichel situation, with Callum McGregor now being allowed to play by Martin O'Neill despite clearly not being fully fit.
The captain has made 50 appearances for the club this season, playing over 4,400 minutes of football across all competitions. He missed out on some games around the middle of March through injury, and although he fully recovered from that injury, he still isn't up to speed.
It turns out that in the lead-up to the St Mirrin game last weekend, McGregor had an injury issue. The manager started him anyway because he was still eager to play.
Speaking after the game, O'Neill said about the situation: "Callum McGregor, he had a bit of a problem during the week, but wanted to play.
"I'm delighted that he did and really didn't feel any worse than before. I'm absolutely delighted that he got through as much as he did, so we need him.
"I think now a few days off for him, I think he'll be ready. I think psychologically, playing the game today was big news for him. Not that we were saving anybody for a semi-final, not at all. That's there, that's in the next eight days or something.
"We weren't saving anybody. He wanted to play, he wanted to start the game, and he felt okay to start it. So that's good, and I don't think he's done any harm."
It brings up the question of why Celtic are allowing players who are not fully fit to play. McGregor may have felt 'okay', but especially in a title race, we need everyone to be 100% ready.
Celtic are allowing injured players to control the situation
Celtic are seemingly letting injured players dictate whether they play. That shouldn't be the case. If the medical team says someone is injured, they are injured. We can't keep taking risks. We are trying to win a title.
The Hoops have suffered this exact situation with Schmeichel already this season. He picked up an injury on international duty last year, but continued to play with hopes of going to the World Cup in the summer.
He made plenty of mistakes between the sticks this season but was ultimately dropped for Viljami Sinisalo. Schmeichel will likely now retire, leaving Celtic at the end of the season when his contract expires, but the problem still remains.
Celtic should be looking to bring in a replacement for the captain in the summer. We should have been looking at other options a year ago, but alas, here we are. With Arne Engels coming back, hopefully that will take some of the pressure off the experienced midfielder.
If McGregor is injured, how long until he starts costing us games? Some would argue he has already made a few costly mistakes this campaign, so the Hoops can't keep running the risk.
O'Neill should have learned from the Schmeichel situation, but he clearly hasn't. Let's just hope it doesn't come back to bite him.
