Signing a new striker has to be near the top of the wishlist for Celtic in the upcoming January transfer window. Bringing in players in the middle of the season is always tricky though, and at times, certain dominoes need to fall before an opportunity can open up. Incidentally, Manchester United might end up helping the Hoops in their quest to add to their forward ranks next month.
One striker Celtic have been linked with for quite some time is Evan Ferguson. The Brighton & Hove Albion striker is currently out on loan at AS Roma but has struggled to find his form once again. He did remain the Scottish champions what he is capable of though, scoring a brace against them when the two teams met in the Europa League.
There is a possibility that Ferguson could leave AS Roma in January. But for that to happen, the Italian club might need to sign a striker first, and it appears that a Manchester United player is on their radar.
As reported by Football Transfers, AS Roma close to securing the signature of Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United. The Giallorossi will sign him on loan for €5m, with an option to buy in the summer for €30m. The Italian club will also pay Man Utd a further €5m should they qualify for the Champions League, according to Il Messaggero.
Manchester United hand striker transfer boost to Celtic
One of the brightest talents in Europe before his move to Manchester United, Zirkzee has endured a tough time at Old Trafford. That is not a unique experience though.
There are so many who have struggled at Manchester United, only to look like completely different players after leaving. Just look at how things have turned out for Scott McTominay since joining Napoli.
So, it is not surprising that AS Roma have their eyes set on Zirkzee. And it could open up a chance for Celtic to sign Ferguson.
