It will be very interesting to see how many players Celtic end up signing in the January transfer window. Wilfried Nancy managed to win his first game with the club in his fifth attempt. But even that was not a perfect performance, and the Hoops were minutes away from another poor result, if not for late goals from Kieran Tierney and James Forrest.

There are a lot of areas where Celtic need to bring in reinforcements. Most of the talk has been regarding new strikers and defenders. The midfield could do with a bit of a revamp as well.

At times, Celtic have looked wide open in Nancy's system, especially on counters. So, they could do with a mobile midfielder with the ability to win the ball back consistently while also having a bit of quality in possession.

Could it be someone like Cameron Devlin, who has played a major role in the Hearts' title challenge so far this season? As reported by CeltsAreHere, Andy Halliday said on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard:

"I think Celtic need a Cammy Devlin more than Rangers do.

“I just think with this shape that Wilfried Nancy is taking with Celtic, the 3-4-3 and the two in the midfield, I think Celtic need more legs next to Callum McGregor.

“I still think over the five games they look a little bit wide open at times, I think they look susceptible to counter-attacks, whereas I think Rangers need for a midfielder is more someone that can get on the ball and progress the game up the pitch and create chances.

“So I actually think the profile of a player like Cammy Devlin is, I think, more suited to what Celtic need than Rangers."

Devlin has been at Hearts since 2021 and he has always been a ballwinner in the middle of the park. But lately, he has showcased that he has a bit about his game going up the pitch as well.

Of course, it is hard to imagine that Hearts would entertain the idea of him joining a club like Celtic, a direct title race competitor, in the middle of the season. But at the same time, one cannot forget that his current contract ends in the summer.

Celtic are no strangers to signing players as free agents, having used that method quite often in recent years as transfer fees have skyrocketed. And if they have the chance to sign the 27-year-old Australian international for nothing, do not be surprised to see them take it.

The club might need a player like Devlin as soon as January though. Now, it remains to be seen if such a move is made or they try to find someone with similar qualities instead.
