It is safe to say that the summer transfer window was one to forget if you are a Celtic fan. Admittedly, the likes of Sebastian Tounekti, Marcelo Saracchi and Kelechi Iheanacho have exceeded the expectations that were set for them. But at the same time, there were plenty of other mistakes that were made as well.

A lot of players were brought in who do not seem to be in Brendan Rodgers' plans at all. One of them is Manchester City centre-back Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

When Simpson-Pusey was signed, it raised the hopes of some Celtic fans. Even though it was only on a loan deal, at least it was someone who had played first-team football for Manchester City and centre-back was viewed as an area where the Hoops needed to strengthen. Perhaps he could be the answer, even if in the short term.

Unfortunately for the youngster, Rodgers does not seem to be of that view. So much so that he has not even made his debut for the club so far. Naturally, there are questions over his future in Scotland and many are wondering about whether Manchester City will recall him in the winter. We have an answer for now.

Manchester City transfer news that will interest Celtic

As reported by CeltsAreHere, a source at Manchester City has confirmed that the club have currently no intention of bringing their defender back when the transfer window opens in January. The situation will be reassessed again after the Christmas period.

So, it looks like Man City are not planning to call him back just yet. There are even some hopes that Simpson-Pusey could get his chance after the international break.

There is little chance of that happening if you ask us. Rodgers is not someone who tinkers with his lineups a lot. Just ask Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki. If he has not even given Simpson-Pusey a chance off the bench so far, it does not feel like he will change his mind and make him a regular contributor in the near future.

Even though Liam Scales is not everybody's cup of tea, he has been a consistent performer for Celtic this season, which is why he continues getting picked. On the other hand, Auston Trusty had impressed in pre-season and will be looking to get back into the first-team fold. Cameron Carter-Vickers is the defensive leader. And Dane Murray has looked good when given a chance. So, there is little room for Simpson-Pusey to break into the starting XI right now.
