Celtic have been linked with plenty of players in recent times as we head towards the January transfer window. But the most high-profile of those names is that of Christian Eriksen. The midfielder is still on the books at Manchester United but could a move to Parkhead lie in his future? Only time shall tell.

One thing has become very clear over the past few weeks though. It does not look like Eriksen plays a major role in Ruben Amorim's short or long-term plans for Manchester United.

Amorim was appointed by the club after Erik ten Hag was shown the exit door. But that has not resulted in an upturn in results as many would have expected.

Manchester United have continued to struggle for results under the management of Amorim. Despite that, the new manager has not really turned to the experience of Eriksen.

Over their last four Premier League games, Manchester United have won once and lost on three occasions. But in all those matches, Eriksen has been left on the bench as an unused substitute.

The message seems to be pretty clear when it comes to his place in the squad. Eriksen's current deal at Manchester United runs out in the summer but one cannot rule out the possibility of a January exit either if the Danish midfielder is interested in playing regular football.

Whether he will get that at Celtic or not is a different discussion altogether. The club have plenty of midfielders at the moment. But if their recent performances have shown anything, it is that they could still do with some more creativity in the middle of the park. Eriksen's top-level experience might help them as well, especially when it comes to games in the Champions League.
