Celtic have booked their place in the final of the Scottish Cup. Next, they will turn their focus towards the upcoming game against Dundee United. Even a point at Tannadice Park would be enough to crown the Hoops as the champions of Scotland for the fourth-straight occasion. After that, they will make a trip to Ibrox to take on the Rangers in the last Glasgow Derby of the season.

The Rangers look set to finish this season without a trophy. Despite that, it looks like there is excitement among the Ibrox fans, as they await a takeover by an American consortium involving the San Francisco 49ers.

The matter has dragged on for longer than expected. But less than two weeks before they face Celtic in the Glasgow Derby, there is an update on the situation and a potential timeline of when the takeover could take place.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Andrew Cavenagh and the San Francisco 49ers have secured the required shares to complete their Rangers takeover. The American consortium, having now acquired 51 per cent, is on course to complete the deal by the end of May.

This is somewhat contrary to some recent reports that had claimed that the 49ers had discovered issues with the Rangers' revenue model. Of course, it remains to be seen how things will play out. But as it stands, it looks like a takeover is not far away.

Of course, many Rangers fans believe that this will be key to them catching up with Celtic. Time shall tell whether that is true or not.

Just because a takeover takes place does not mean that it will automatically turn things around for a club that has struggled for so long. Just look at how things have gone for some English clubs following recent takeovers, and much bigger ones also.
