The names of Celtic and Liverpool have been linked with each other for the past few summers. A couple of summers back, the Hoops had signed Nat Phillips on loan. Last year, they were heavily linked with a move for Caoimhin Kelleher. This time around, it has more to do with what the Premier League club will end up doing.

They have been heavily linked with a move for Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement for the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold. There has been a ton of speculation surrounding Ben Doak as well and he could potentially end up crossing the Merseyside divide and joining Everton.

On the other hand, there is another bit of news that will interest Celtic fans. One that involves one of their former players.

As reported by Liverpool's official website, Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract to extend his time with the club beyond the 2024-25 season. As tweeted by Sky Sports Premier League, the Dutch captain has signed a two-year extension.

It is at Celtic that Van Dijk first made a name for himself at the European level. Even back then, it was very clear that he was level above those around him and it came as no surprise when he ended up leaving the club after just a couple of seasons.

Van Dijk would end up joining Southampton, prove himself at the Premier League level and then join Liverpool. The rest is history.

Van Dijk proved to be the final piece of the puzzle that would restore Liverpool's place amongst the best in England and Europe. They have not looked back since and have continued to win trophies on a consistent basis, with the Dutchman always remaining an integral part of the team, whether that be under the management of Jurgen Klopp or now, Arne Slot.
