Every summer, it feels like Celtic end up getting linked with a number of Liverpool's players and by the end of the window, they end up signing none of them. This time around, things don't seem to be turning out any differently either. It appears that Brendan Rodgers' side have missed out on another of their rumoured targets.
It has been a frustrating transfer window if you are a Celtic fan. The club have spent only around £3 million in transfer fees. That is unbelievable. Even the Rangers have shown more ambition.
Hopefully, things will change. For that, Celtic need to move quickly. And as it turns out, they have missed out on another one of their targets.
Last month, it had been reported by SportsBoom that Celtic had joined the race to sign Tyler Morton. It was said that they were preparing a bid for the Liverpool midfielder.
Liverpool make official announcement confirming bad news for Celtic
Well, the midfielder has now moved this summer. So, the rumours of him wanting to leave were definitely on the mark. But as reported by Liverpool's official page, he has completed a permanent transfer to Olympique Lyonnais.
Morton is a very talented midfielder. He impressed whenever given a chance and could have been an excellent signing for Celtic. But the Hoops have clearly missed out. It is unclear whether that rumoured 'bid' was ever made or not. He will probably be a success story for Lyon.
As for Celtic, they are left scrambling for the right options as we enter the last few weeks of this summer transfer window. Once again, the Hoops have left it late and made things unnecessarily difficult for themselves. The Scottish champions just don't seem to learn from their past mistakes and keep repeating them.
Of course, Morton is not the only Liverpool midfielder Celtic have been linked with this summer. Stefan Bajcetic is believed to be on their radar as well. Let's see if the Hoops have better luck trying to sign him.
