Lisbon Lion Jim Craig has piled criticism on Celtic's European performances, telling the club that something needs to change.
Craig was part of the side that made history when the Hoops lifted the European Cup in 1967. Now, he is still watching on, and he has a lot to say about this season in particular.
Speaking to The Scotsman, he said: "It has been a strange old season. I think this current Celtic team are doing alright, and I do believe we’ll win the league, but it will be really tight because a lot depends on how Hearts go.
"Rangers have been blowing hot and cold, but Hearts are still there and could be a bit of a nuisance. I think it will depend on how they react to the situation in the next few weeks. Can they sustain this challenge, or are they beginning to struggle under the pressure?
"Europe for Celtic has shown up some deficiencies, so whether they have to bring new players in this summer or change the style a wee bit is up to those running the club. But certainly, I think everybody was disappointed that we went out of Europe with a bit of a whimper. That has to change."
Speaking about what he would think of Martin O'Neill winning the league with this Celtic side, he said: "Of course, Martin would be a hero if he could win the league this season. They got a shock at the weekend [losing 2-0 to Dundee United]."
Craig is spot on, but whether the Hoops hierarchy will pay attention is a different question. O'Neill is already a Celtic legend, and he could do even better for himself should he pull off the near-impossible this campaign. Next season, the team really needs to bounce back though, and quickly.
What next for the Hoops?
With the possibility of no Champions League football again next season, the Celts will have to settle for a lower European competition. That could give the club a better chance of winning it though, but serious investment is still needed if we want that to be a possibility.
There is a lot of work to do in the summer, and a new manager is the first thing on the list. As soon as someone comes through the door, we can start to purchase players that fit his style, and hopefully, kick on quickly. Only time will tell, but we have hope.
