'Laughed off' - Celtic make another awful transfer move

It looks like the Celtic board made another awful transfer move and were laughed off for the suggestion.

With more than half the winter transfer window gone, there has been no real progress when it comes to Celtic's search for strikers. It has been suggested that the club want to bring in not one, but two of them, to strengthen Martin O'Neill's squad. But so far, they have had no luck. The return of Kyogo Furuhashi failed to materialise. Franko Kovacevic is headed to Ferencvaros. And now, it looks another forward has no chance of ending up at Parkhead.

One thing we have noticed is that Celtic mostly seem to be looking to bring in players on loan this winter. Perhaps it is because they do not want to make permanent signings under Martin O'Neill, as he will be leaving at the end of the season.

Anyways, one striker they were linked with recently is Joel Piroe. The rumour was that Celtic wanted to bring him on loan from Leeds United. And as it turns out, there was some truth to it.

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Celtic did make the suggestion. But it did not lead to talks. Instead, it was laughed off in bemusement due to the Scottish club's apparent lack of appreciation for the relationship between 49ers Enterprises' two clubs.

In case you did not know, both Leeds United and the Rangers are under the 49ers Enterprises. So, there was never much of a realistic chance that Celtic would be able to sign Piroe.

What makes the suggestion even more unrealistic is the fact that they wanted it to be a loan deal. That would not help Leeds United much. And if they were indeed open to the prospect, they would have other options available to them, and would not be looking to strengthen the Rangers' historic Glasgow rivals.

At this point, one has to wonder what is going on with the recruitment at Celtic. Not only are they not getting deals done, but they are also wasting valuable time on ones that were never going to happen in the first place.
